Product Information
5α-Dihydrolevonorgestrel is a progestin that is used in oral contraceptives. It has antagonistic activities, which act by binding to the progesterone receptor and preventing it from binding to its natural ligand, progesterone. 5α-Dihydrolevonorgestrel also has significant activation of transcriptional activity mediated by estrogen receptors. This drug can be administered orally or via gene therapy vectors. It is able to activate the expression of progesterone receptors and other gene transcription factors. 5α-Dihydrolevonorgestrel binds to the a-ring of the estrogen receptor, which leads to a conformational change in the DNA-binding domain, stimulating transcription of target genes.
