(S)-[(1-Phenylethyl)amino]acetic acid is a research chemical that belongs to the group of iminosugars. It is a macrocyclic compound with six amino groups and one carboxylic acid group. The molecule has been shown to be anion selective, transporting chloride ions and sulfate ions in preference to nitrate ions. This compound has also been shown to transport potassium ions as well as other alkali metal cations. (S)-[(1-Phenylethyl)amino]acetic acid has been synthesized from methoxyethyl acetate and hexamers, which are cyclic esters of glycerol.
