4-Chloro-2,7,8-trimethylquinoline is a chemical compound that has been studied by gas phase, molecular structure, and x-ray methods. It is a yellow solid with an x-ray diffraction pattern consisting of three peaks at 2.6 Å, 3.4 Å, and 7.1 Å. The molecule can be represented by the structural formula CHClN(CH)C(CH)Cl in which the two methyl groups are on adjacent carbons (1 and 2). This compound also exists as two isomers: 4-chloro-2,7,8-trimethylquinoline and 4-chloro-2-(3,5-, or 6-)dimethylquinoline. X-ray analysis has shown that the bond lengths for all the bonds in these compounds are approximately the same length (1.467 Å).
