5-Bromo-2-chloronicotinoyl chloride (5BNC) is a synthetic compound that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme monoamine oxidase. It has been shown to be active against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, as well as some linezolid-resistant strains. 5BNC is used in the treatment of infections caused by Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi, Enterobacter cloacae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Enterococcus faecalis. 5BNC also has an amide functionality that allows it to be more soluble in water than related compounds.
