1-Phenyl-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole is an organolithium compound. It is a reactive intermediate that is used in the synthesis of various chemical compounds. 1-Phenyl-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole can be prepared by reacting acetonitrile with nitrosobenzene in the presence of dioxane as a solvent at temperatures between 50 and 80 °C. The reaction time for this process varies depending on the desired product. This compound reacts with amines to form substituted pyrrolines and reacts with allylamines to form substituted pyrimidines. 1-Phenyl-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole has also been used in the synthesis of heterocycles such as naphthoxazoles and naphthothiazoles.
