4-(2-Phenoxyethoxy)benzaldehyde is a colorless to yellow liquid with a fruity, vanilla odor. It has been shown to be an additive that increases the sensitivity of recording media in optical recording. The addition of 4-(2-phenoxyethoxy)benzaldehyde to potassium carbonate greatly increases the rate of production of 3-hydroxybenzaldehyde and benzaldehyde, which are used as catalysts for organic reactions.
