N-Boc-1-methyl-D-tryptophan is an ester of 1-methyl-D-tryptophan that is used as a synthetic intermediate. The reaction mechanism for this compound can be classified as nucleophilic and catalytic. It is an unactivated ester, and does not require activation with acid or base prior to hydrolysis. N-Boc-1-methyl-D-tryptophan has been shown to react with alcohols and amines in the presence of a base to form amides and amidines, respectively.
