Ethyl 4-amino-1-methyl-1H-imidazole-2-carboxylate is an imidazole derivative that is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme DNA gyrase. It has high affinity for the enzyme and a low inhibitory concentration (IC50) value. It also shows sequence selectivity, binding to only one of three sequences in dna. In addition, it binds to hairpin structures in dna and inhibits the formation of polyamides.
