Description

Hyptadienic acid is a chromatographically isolated compound from the genus Hyptis. It has been found to have potent inhibitory activity against mouse tumor cells and inhibits carcinogenesis in tissue cultures. It is also an antidiabetic that is able to reduce blood glucose levels in mice by inhibiting gluconeogenesis, glycogenolysis, and lipolysis. The biological properties of this compound are still being investigated but it is believed that its anti-diabetic effects are due to inhibition of the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase.
