(2S,3R,4E)-2-Amino-4-dodecene-1,3-diol is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH). FAAH is responsible for breaking down the endocannabinoids anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol. This inhibition results in an increase in the levels of these chemicals and subsequent activation of cannabinoid receptors. (2S,3R,4E)-2-amino-4-(dodecenyl)-1,3-diol has been shown to inhibit neurotransmitter release from synaptic terminals at neuromuscular junctions in mice.
