2-Chloro-1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane is a quaternary ammonium salt that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It has a phosphoryl group and amine functional groups, which are important for its antibacterial activity. 2-Chloro-1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane reacts with electron donors to form an imine intermediate and then undergoes cross-coupling reactions to form the corresponding organometallic compound. This process requires an activation energy of 24 kcal/mol and a high purity of the reactants to prevent side reactions such as racemization. 2-Chloro-1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane has been shown to have antibacterial properties against several strains of bacteria including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus
