Taxayunnansin A is the major taxoid found in Taxus cuspidata and other plants. It is a novel taxane with a spectrum that includes the characteristic doublets of taxol. The single-crystal x-ray diffraction data indicate that it has a structure similar to that of taxol, with two methyl groups at C-2′ and C-3′ and three methoxy groups at C-4′, C-5′, and C-6′. The nmr spectra are consistent with this proposed structure. Taxayunnansin A can be used as a precursor for the synthesis of taxoids such as paclitaxel (Taxol).
