Rel-(8R,8'R)-dimethyl-(7S,7'R)-bis(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)tetrahydro-furan is a lignan that was shown to inhibit the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in mice. Rel-(8R,8'R)-dimethyl-(7S,7'R)-bis(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)tetrahydro-furan has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and is effective against tumors. The mechanism of action is not yet known.
