Product Information
- 3-Piperazin-1-Ylbenzonitrile
3-(Piperazin-1-yl)benzonitrile is a nitrogen-containing molecule that has been shown to modulate the activity of NMDA receptors. It acts as a ligand for these receptors and interacts with them in a qualitatively similar manner to glycine, which is an endogenous neurotransmitter. 3-(Piperazin-1-yl)benzonitrile binds to the phenyl ring of the receptor, and its protonation state affects its binding affinity. The substituent on this ring also affects binding affinity. 3-(Piperazin-1-yl)benzonitrile can be used as a pharmacologic tool for studying NMDA receptors because it can bind to the receptor without activating it, thereby allowing study of the receptor without interference from activation by glutamate.
