Methyl 2-bromo-6-methoxyisonicotinate is a nitrile that can be synthesised from the reaction of methyl 2-bromoacetate with methoxylamine. It is biologically active as an alkaloid and has been used in the synthesis of heteroarenes. Nitriles are also known to be biologically active, due to their ability to form peroxides when exposed to air or moisture. This compound can be synthesised by cyclisation of trimethylstannyl acetate and isopropylmagnesium bromide. Methyl 2-bromo-6-methoxyisonicotinate could also be used as a solvent for other organic compounds and for the production of pharmaceuticals.
