6-Bromo-4-chloro-7-fluoro-3-nitroquinoline is a potent cancer drug that has been shown to induce autophagy. Autophagy is a process in cells by which damaged organelles and proteins are degraded, and it may have an important role in preventing the spread of cancer. 6-Bromo-4-chloro-7-fluoro-3-nitroquinoline induces autophagy by activating mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways, such as ERK1/2, JNK and p38 MAPK, which regulate the activation of autophagy. This drug has been shown to be effective against metastatic melanoma and cervical cancer cells. It inhibits the proliferation of these cancer cells through inhibition of mTORC2 activity, which is required for cell growth.
