Product Information

Name:
(3’S,3R,4R)-Ezetimibe
Description:

Ezetimibe is a drug that inhibits the absorption of cholesterol. It is a stereoisomer of ursodeoxycholic acid and has been shown to be an inhibitor of cholesterol absorption in both human and animal models. Ezetimibe is used in the treatment of high cholesterol, hyperlipidemia, and atherosclerosis. Ezetimibe may be administered alone or with other drugs for these conditions. Single-crystal x-ray analysis has revealed that ezetimibe binds to the active site of the enzyme NPC1L1, which is responsible for the final step in the process by which dietary fat enters cells. This binding prevents cholesterol from being absorbed, thereby lowering serum levels of total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein (LDL).
