It can be used in the transfer of hydrogen and metals. 2-Amino-6-methyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-thieno[2,3-c]-pyridine 3 carboxylic acid methyl ester has antibacterial effects against gram negative bacteria (e.g., Salmonella typhimurium) but not against gram positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus).
