The inhibitory mechanism of 4-Methyl-2-(4-methylpiperazinyl) pyrimido[4,5-b]benzothiazine is not well understood. It has been shown to have anti-cancer effects in animals and humans, with a potency that is similar to that of the hydrogen bond inhibitor amsacrine. 4MPBTZD inhibits the activity of lipoxygenases, which are enzymes that produce reactive oxygen species (ROS). It also inhibits the activity of prenyl protein transferase (PPR), which is involved in lipid metabolism. The synthesis of 4MPBTZD involves two steps: first, a benzothiazole ring system is formed from an aromatic compound and dimethylaminopyridine; second, methylpiperazine is added to form a pyrimidopyrimidine ring system.
