8-Chloro-2-(methylsulfanyl)pyrido[3,4-d]pyrimidine is an inhibitor of the class of pyrimidine kinases. It is a derivative of 8-chloropyrido[3,4-d]pyrimidine and has been shown to be more efficient as an inhibitor than its parent compound. 8-Chloro-2-(methylsulfanyl)pyrido[3,4-d]pyrimidine is synthetically prepared from 8-chloropyrido[3,4-d]pyrimidine by derivatisation with methyl sulfenyl chloride. This compound inhibits the activity of a kinase enzyme by binding to the ATP site on the enzyme's active site. Kinase enzymes catalyze the transfer of phosphate groups from ATP to other molecules such as proteins or lipids.
