Methyl 2-(4-amino-3-hydroxyphenyl)acetate is a novel eosinophil antagonist. It has been shown to be an orally active compound that has the capability of inhibiting the release of histamine from mast cells and basophils. Methyl 2-(4-amino-3-hydroxyphenyl)acetate is being developed as a potential treatment for allergic reactions, such as asthma and bronchitis. This drug may also have antiallergic effects by inhibiting the production of cytokines and leukotrienes in vitro.
