3-(1-Ethyl-3-methyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-3-oxopropanenitrile is a potent, selective, and reversible inhibitor of the enzyme polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It has been used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases in humans. 3-(1-Ethyl-3-methyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-3-oxopropanenitrile binds to the active site of DNA polymerases and inhibits DNA synthesis by blocking the transfer reactions. 3-(1-Ethyl-3-methyl-1H pyrazol 4 yl)-3 -oxopropanenitrile is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes to form a reactive intermediate that reacts with cellular nucleophiles such as thiols or amines, leading to cell death. The mechanism of action of this drug is not completely understood but may involve a covalent bond between the
