- (+)-1,2-Bis((2S,5S)-2,5-diphenylphospholano)ethane
1,2-Bis(2R,5R)-2,5-Diphenylphospholan-1-yl)ethane (L1) is a ligand that can be used in asymmetric catalytic reactions. It is soluble in organic solvents and has excellent chemical stability. L1 has been shown to be effective for the generation of chiral phosphines from achiral phosphines. The synthesis of chiral phosphines is an important step for many reactions in organic chemistry. Ligands are often classified as either Lewis or Bronsted acids or bases, depending on the type of reaction they are involved in. In general, Lewis acids promote reactions that generate cations while Bronsted acids promote reactions that generate anions. The strength of a Lewis acid depends on its ability to accept electron pairs from other molecules while the strength of a Bronsted acid depends on its ability to donate electron pairs to other molecules.
