Product Information
Azeliragon is a microbial infection diagnostic agent that binds to the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. It has been shown to have low-dose efficacy in diabetic patients and long-term efficacy in prostate cancer cells. Azeliragon has also been used for treatment of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. The molecule consists of an α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor-binding domain and a chemokine (CXCL13) binding domain, which interacts with toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) on macrophages and other immune cells. Azeliragon binds to TLR4 and activates the immune system by activating macrophages and other cells, leading to increased production of cytokines such as IL-6, IL-8, TNFα, IL1β, CXCL9 and CXCL10.
