Triphenyl(carbethoxymethyl)phosphonium bromide can be synthesized by reacting triphenylphosphine with chloroform (CHClO). The reaction scheme begins with the formation of a phosphine oxide followed by hydrolysis to produce triphenyl phosphite. The carbethoxy group is then added to the phosphorus atom to form triphenyl
