Description:

Tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)silane is a compound that reacts with a variety of organic and inorganic compounds to form silicon-containing products. It has been used for the synthesis of polysilanes, polysiloxanes, and polymers with silicon-containing side chains. Tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)silane is also used as an analytical reagent in gas chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. It can be used to study the reaction mechanisms of organic molecules by substituting the carbonyl group with a trimethylsilyl group. The molecule is protonated during the reaction process and this proton is transferred to the substrate via a resonance mechanism. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy can be used to identify the reactant as well as its stereochemistry, which can be determined by observing carbon resonances.
