6-Hepten-1-ol is a monolayer alcohol that has been shown to be metabolized by a stereoselective process. 6-Hepten-1-ol is produced from the oxidation of geranyl pyrophosphate, which is in turn derived from the metabolism of farnesyl pyrophosphate. This product can also be synthesized by the reaction of boron trifluoride etherate with reticulatae in the presence of a base and an acid catalyst. The alcohol can also be found in medicines such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen.
