Bicyclo[3.1.0]hexan-2-one is a reactive chemical compound with a molecular formula of C5H8O. It is used for the synthesis of 6-chloropurine, which is an important intermediate in the manufacturing of many drugs, including azathioprine and 6-mercaptopurine. Bicyclo[3.1.0]hexan-2-one can be alkylated to form secondary amines or aziridines, which are useful intermediates in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals such as antihistamines and antihypertensives. This chemical has been shown to have chiral properties, which makes it useful for synthesizing purine nucleoside analogues such as cladribine and pentostatin.
