2,4,5-Trichlorothioanisole (2,4,5-TCA) is a metabolite of 2,4,5-trichlorophenol (TCP). The metabolites of TCP can be detected in the urine and feces. The sulfoxides have been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes, while the sulfones have been shown to inhibit hydroxylase enzymes. 2,4,5-TCA inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol by binding to and inhibiting hydroxylase enzymes in the liver. This compound has also been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in the intestine by affecting microflora. The concentration of 2,4,5-TCA in adipose tissue is higher than that found in other tissues or fluids. Rats injected with 2,4,5-TCA excreted most of it through their urinary system within 24 hours after injection.
