Description:
Phenyl 4-methoxybenzoate is a phenolic compound that inhibits the uptake of serotonin into cells. It does not affect the uptake of dopamine or amines, but does inhibit their release from cells. Phenyl 4-methoxybenzoate has been shown to have antidepressant activity in rats and has good pharmacokinetic properties. This drug is absorbed orally and metabolized by hydrolysis to form diphenyl ethers, which are excreted in urine.
