2,6-Dichlorothioanisole is a yellow liquid that is soluble in organic solvents. It has antimicrobial activity and can be used to produce hydrogen peroxide. 2,6-Dichlorothioanisole is oxidized to 2,6-dichloro-sulphide by hydrogen peroxide or by the action of sulphides. The oxidation products are sulphides and sulphones. These compounds are active against bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, but not against fungi such as Candida albicans or Aspergillus niger.
