Description:
2,6-Dichlorophenylmethylsulfone is a reactive chemical that has been shown to have neurotoxic effects in animal studies. It inhibits the synthesis of glutathione, which is an important antioxidant and detoxifier, leading to nerve damage. 2,6-Dichlorophenylmethylsulfone also affects the neuroepithelial cells in the brain by blocking uptake of neurotransmitters. This agent blocks the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes and can be used as a modulator in tissue culture experiments. 2,6-Dichlorophenylmethylsulfone has been shown to irreversibly bind with radioactivity to target sites in rat brain tissue.
