Product Information
Bis(4-chlorophenyl)glycidyl ether (BCGE) is a glycidyl ether that has been used as an industrial plasticizer and as a photoinitiator in the polymerization of polymers. BCGE is light sensitive and can be synthesized by reacting benzaldehyde with chlorobenzene in the presence of magnesium or iron chloride. The compound reacts with water to produce hydrogen chloride, which is converted to hydrochloric acid by the addition of sodium hydroxide. BCGE is also susceptible to degradation from exposure to ultraviolet radiation, which causes it to polymerize into polymeric materials.
