Zinc oxalate is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water. The dihydrate form of zinc oxalate has been used as an oxidation catalyst and can be used in the production of hydrogen gas. Oxalic acid, which is formed by the reaction of zinc oxide with water vapor, reacts with sodium citrate to form a product that has electrochemical impedance spectroscopy properties. This product is sensitive to pH changes and will react with fatty acids at room temperature. Zinc oxalate reacts thermally with hydrogen fluoride to produce light emission and zinc fluoride.
