Amylcyclohexane is a liquid crystal composed of two or more cyclohexane rings, which are joined together by one or more carbon-carbon single bonds. The liquid crystalline nature of amylcyclohexane makes it an excellent candidate for use as a polymer in the production of polycarboxylic acid. Amylcyclohexane has been shown to be chemically stable and can be expressed with recombinant cells. It has been suggested that amylcyclohexane could be used as a solid catalyst for the synthesis of other chemicals.
