Product Information

Name:
4-Methyl-3-phenylisoxazol-5-amine
Synonyms:
  • 4-Methyl-3-phenyl-5-isoxazolamine
  • 5-Amino-4-methyl-3-phenylisoxazole
Description:

4-Methyl-3-phenylisoxazol-5-amine (MPIA) is a competitive inhibitor of the isoxazole ring. It competes with an intramolecular substrate for the active site of the enzyme and prevents the formation of an intermediate that is required for the catalytic reaction. MPIA has been reinvestigated in recent years, and it was found to be a more potent inhibitor than its close relative, 3-methylisoxazol-5-amine. This may be due to its greater stability and better solubility in water. MPIA has also been shown to undergo an isomerisation reaction with isocyanates and arylamines, which may lead to new applications for this drug in organic synthesis.
