6-Aminohexanoic acid hydrochloride is a serine protease inhibitor that is used as a medicinal preparation. It is an amino acid with a carbonyl group, which in the presence of metal ions can act as a nucleophile. 6-Aminohexanoic acid hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the activity of HIV and other viruses, which may be due to its ability to bind viral proteins and inhibit their function. This drug also inhibits the activity of serine proteases, including chymotrypsin and trypsin.
