1-Oxo-1H-isothiochromene-3-carboxylic acid (1OITCA) is an anticancer agent that inhibits the activity of enzymes that are involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA. 1OITCA also has antitrypanosomal properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the recycling of folate cofactors. 1OITCA is a heterocycle with a novel scaffold that has shown promising antimitotic activity in animal models. It is being investigated as a potential treatment for tropical diseases such as trypanosomiasis.
