Diallylmalonic acid is a hydroxy acid that can be obtained from the reaction of hydrogen chloride and malonic acid. It is an acidic compound that has been shown to inhibit insulin resistance in mice. Diallylmalonic acid is used as a homogeneous catalyst for hydroxylation reactions. It is also used as a solid catalyst in organic solution, thermally activated by irradiation with ultraviolet light, or catalyzed by hydrochloric acid. The chemical shifts in the 1H and 13C NMR spectra of diallylmalonic acid are different depending on the solvent it is dissolved in.br>br>
Diallylmalonic acid can be synthesized from two molecules of malonic acid and one molecule of hydrochloric acid:br>br>
