Product Information
3-Oxohexanoic acid is a carboxylic acid that contains a hydroxy group and an active methylene. It is an amine precursor, which can be converted to nicotinic acetylcholine with the help of metal hydroxides. 3-Oxohexanoic acid also has a high affinity for fatty acids and can be used as a carbon source in the presence of carbonyl group. The product is an active substance that belongs to the class of statins and inhibits the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase. This inhibition leads to reduced production of cholesterol and fatty acids, which lowers blood cholesterol levels. 3-Oxohexanoic acid may also serve as a precursor for dinucleotide phosphate, which is involved in many metabolic pathways in cells.
