Product Information
Pyridine is a chemical compound that has antimicrobial properties. It is active against Gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-negative bacteria, but not against fungi. Pyridine inhibits transcription by binding to the chitosan quaternary ammonium in the bacterial cell wall, which prevents the dinucleotide phosphate from binding to the ribosome and initiating protein synthesis. The target enzymes of pyridine are bacterial dna gyrase and topoisomerase IV. Pyridine also has a significant cytotoxicity on cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis and RNA transcription. This chemical can be used as a potential biomarker for infectious diseases such as tuberculosis (TB), which has been shown to be able to inhibit both DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. It can also be used in wastewater treatment and water vapor control systems with significant cytotoxicity.
