9H-Fluoren-9-ylideneacetic acid is a decarboxylative alkylation agent that has been used for the synthesis of analogues of carboxylic acids. This compound is very efficient in synthesizing allylic or β-unsaturated carboxylic acids. 9H-fluoren-9-ylideneacetic acid reacts with carboxylic, alkylating agents, and enolates to form fluorinated ketones. It is used in organic chemistry as a chemical intermediate for the production of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and perfumes. 9H-fluoren-9-ylideneacetic acid also has biological activity including antiinflammatory properties and it can be used as an insecticide.
