Product Information
- Ethyl 2-quinolinecarboxylate
Ethyl quinoline-2-carboxylate is a hydrogen bond donor that inhibits the enzyme cox-2 and is an effective anti-inflammatory. It has been shown to be safe and has a low potential for adverse reactions. This compound can be synthesized from furfural, which is an inexpensive feedstock that can be derived from biomass. Ethyl quinoline-2-carboxylate also has the ability to inhibit the synthesis of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) in animal models and in human cells. COX-2 inhibition by this compound may be due to a ring opening reaction with the hydrogen bond as the leaving group. The frequency of nucleophilic attack on ethyl quinoline-2-carboxylate by water molecules is relatively high, which makes it more susceptible to photooxidation.
