Product Information
- 1,3(2H,4H)-isoquinolinedione, 2-methyl-
2-Methylisoquinoline-1,3(2H,4H)-dione is a compound with two asymmetric carbon atoms. It is a product of the monoalkylation reaction between an alkyl halide and an iminium ion. The alkyl substituents on the methyl group have a significant effect on the regioselectivity of this reaction. 2-Methylisoquinoline-1,3(2H,4H)-dione can be used to synthesize other compounds through 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions or by dimerisation reactions with carbonyl substituents. This compound can also be prepared from 2-methylisoquinoline and formaldehyde in elemental form.
