Product Information
- Phosphonium, tetramethyl-, bromide
- NSC 617067
Tetramethylphosphonium bromide is a viscosity-increasing agent that is used in polylactic acid, a polymer that can be used as a substitute for polypropylene. Tetramethylphosphonium bromide reacts with hydrochloric acid and dibromides to form stable complexes. These complexes have shown to be an efficient catalyst for the oxidative carbonylation of carbon monoxide (CO) over a wide range of temperatures. Tetramethylphosphonium bromide has also been shown to form stable intramolecular hydrogen bonds, which allow it to act as a solid catalyst for reactions such as the Michael reaction and Diels-Alder reactions.
