4-(Butylamino)-1-butanol is a GABA receptor agonist that binds to the GABA receptor. It has been shown to inhibit bladder contractions in animals and may be used for the treatment of urinary incontinence. This drug also has an inhibitory effect on butyric acid excretion, which may be due to its ability to block the binding of butyric acid to its receptors in the brain. 4-(Butylamino)-1-butanol has not been shown to cause cancer in experimental models, although it does have carcinogenic effects on rats. The effects are related to its ability to bind with fluorine and form DNA adducts.
