N'-(Diphenylmethylene)-4-methylbenzenesulfonohydrazide is a reactive compound with a functional group. It is a stereoselective alkylation agent that can be used to produce ethane and other hydrocarbons from ethylene. This substance reacts with water, chlorine, and fluorine in the presence of light to produce hydroxyl radicals. N'-(Diphenylmethylene)-4-methylbenzenesulfonohydrazide has been shown to react with ethane and ethylene to form acetaldehyde, which can then be converted into ethanol. The high reactivity of this substance makes it an exploratory amination reaction that may have potential for use in solar cells.
