10-Camphorsulfonyl chloride (10CSOCl) is a diastereomer of camphor sulfonic acid. It is an organic compound, which can be prepared by the reaction of camphor and thionyl chloride. This chemical has been shown to stabilize the enthalpic interaction between solutes and solvents in chromatographic separation processes and also to promote preparative separations by forming a dense layer on the surface of a liquid solvent. 10CSOCl has been used as a reagent for the preparation of homochiral compounds, such as phenylacetaldehyde. The density of 10CSOCl is 1.6 g/cm3, which is less than that of water (1 g/cm3). The dipole moment of this chemical is 2.4 D, which means it will have stronger interactions with polar molecules than nonpolar ones. This chemical has a melting point of 109°C (228°F).
