1,3,4-Thiadiazole-2,5-dithiol dipotassium salt is an analytical chemistry reagent that is a sodium salt of 1,3,4-thiadiazole-2,5-dithiol. It has been shown to have a redox potential of -0.34 V and forms stable hydroxyl groups when dissolved in water. The hydroxyl group can serve as a nucleophile in the presence of p-nitrophenyl phosphate to form the corresponding pyridinium salt. The formation of this product can be confirmed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and fluorescence spectrometry. 1,3,4-Thiadiazole-2,5-dithiol dipotassium salt has been used as the starting material for synthesizing other derivatives such as sulfides or disulfides.
The synthesis begins with reacting carbon disulphide with 2 equivalents of th
