Pyridine-3,5-dicarboxamide is an alkaloid that has antimycobacterial activity. It also has anticoagulant and antimicrobial properties. The sodium salts of this compound have been used to treat hemorrhoids, as well as to control the symptoms of tuberculosis and leprosy. Pyridine-3,5-dicarboxamide can be found in the fructus of Aristolochia indica and in Scutellariae radix et rhizoma, which are used in traditional Chinese medicine. This alkaloid is also present in Epiberberine and steroidal glycosides. Pyridine-3,5-dicarboxamide is a component of chloroacetate esters such as chloroacetic acid, scutellariae chloride, jatrorrhizine chloride, nitrous chloride, and hplc analysis.
